Twenty-five years ago today Australia signed the Madrid Protocol which banned mining in Antarctica and set aside the icy continent as a natural reserve, devoted to peace and science. 6 St James' International Fellow Professor Tim Stephens writes in today's Sydney Morning Herald how Australia can be a world leader again.
